I don’t know anyone that doesn’t yearn to have a brighter and whiter smile. There was a point in time where teeth whitening was reserved for the wealthy, but fortunately it is now something very affordable that you can do it right at home! Smile Brilliant, a professional at home teeth whitening kit, was created by a dental professional with more than 30 years of experience. The company came to be after realizing that majority of the cost & time associated with professional teeth whitening revolves mostly around trips to the dentist. To reduce cost and time, the Smile Brilliant founder developed a system that allows customers to make their own dental impressions right at home!
Brighten Your Smile with Affordable Teeth Whitening
How it works
Smile Brilliant will send you everything you need in one concise package. You may choose your sensitivity level and the amount of whitening gel you want. If you have darker or more numerous stains you should select a higher number of whitening gel applicators. Inside your package, you will also find materials to create your custom trays. There are materials to make a mold of your teeth and a pre-paid envelope to mail the molds back to Smile Brilliant. In less than a week the company will send you your custom-fitted teeth whitening trays. Along with your trays, you will receive desensitizing gel, whitening gel, and instructions. The following procedure is recommended for each whitening session.
- Brush teeth with water (not toothpaste because the fluoride slows the whitening process)
- Whiten for 1-3 hours
- Brush teeth with toothpaste as normal
- Do a desensitizing gel session for 15-30 minutes
- Remove trays but don’t rinse or brush…just spit (this will leave a thin layer of desensitizing gel on your teeth)
- Sleep! It is the best to whiten before bed so the desensitizing gel has time to absorb into teeth and you are not introducing any food/drink that could stain.
It was recommended to me to start slowly and work my way up in terms of how long I whitened. Another tip I was told was to use petroleum jelly or coconut oil if I experienced gum sensitivity, which is apparently very common. If for some reason Smile brilliant does not work for you, they have an awesome guarantee. If for some reason, you are unsatisfied with the product, you have 45 days from the date your kit is shipped to get your money back. There is also a 2-year tray replacement warranty. If you lose, damage, or destroy your trays within the first two years you can get them replaced for just $30!
What to know before buying
There are many companies selling products intended to help you brighten your smile at home, but not all are as straightforward to provide you with information they think you should know BEFORE making a purchase. Erin, a registered dental hygienist, authored a post of 7 things to know before buying teeth whitening. She tackles questions like “how long will the whitening last?”, “will the whitening gel damage my teeth?”, and more!
Trays vs. LED Kits
I’ve seen a lot of home whitening kits and many involve LED lights. I wasn’t sure how they compared to custom trays or really even what the differences were. Thankfully, Smile Brilliant has me covered with their analysis of LED lights and their relation to custom whitening trays. I was surprised to learn that you can use LED lights with your custom whitening trays to reduce the amount of time the gel is in your mouth. I was also educated that teeth whitening in order from most to least effectiveness is custom teeth whitening bleaching trays, LED teeth whitening light with gel pen, then teeth whitening strips.
My Personal Experience
As soon as I started my first whitening treatment, I was immediately alarmed by how uncomfortable the whitening gel made my teeth feel. It was such an unpleasant feeling that I emailed the brand representative right away to ask if I was maybe doing it wrong. She informed me that I was likely experiencing discomfort because the pores of my teeth were being opened and penetrated by the gel in order to remove stains. She said it was normally to experience some discomfort and recommended that I try the desensitizing gel alone for 3-4 days to hydrate and mineralize my teeth. After those 3-4 days, I prepped my teeth for 20-30 minutes with the desensitizing gel, whitened for 45-90 minutes, and then did the desensitizing gel for another 20-30 minutes.
My biggest issue has been whitening consistently. We have such hectic schedules that whitening 2 hours/day wasn’t always at the top of my priority list, especially since it causes me discomfort. However, when I do whiten, I love being able to get other things done at the same time. My usual go-to whitening activity is watching shows with The Boy or getting blog work done. I believe my lack of consistency caused my results to be delayed. However, I still achieved results I was pleased with, it just took a little longer. I would def recommend Smile Brilliant to all of my Royals in Reality looking for an affordable way to whiten and brighten their smile right in the comfort of their own home and if you do experience sensitivity like I did, try my remixed procedure!
