High-Functioning Depression: What it is & How it Looks

Over the past few days I have binged watched the entire first season of 13 Reasons Why on Netflix. 13 Reasons Why is a Netflix Original Series (based on the book 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher) that tells the tragic story of a teenager’s decision to end her own life. Not to reveal too much, but over the course of the season we watch everything that led up to Hannah Baker’s death, get to see all of the events from her perspective, and learn that her classmates basically had no idea the harm they were causing her. The show controversially addresses mental illness, specifically discussing the taboo topic of suicide. After finishing the season, I spent a few days reflecting on my own mental health and decided it was time to share my own experience with depression with the hopes (as always) to encourage anyone who needs and happens to stumble upon Royalty in Reality. Spice Up Your Workout at the New Creve Coeur CycleBar

Spring has officially sprung and the race is on to get your body summer ready! For over a year, the Boy and I have been trying to make exercise a regular part of our routine. As I’m sure you can imagine, we go through phases where we are in the gym 5x/week and others where we skip a whole week. He is much more diligent about working out than I am, as I tend to get bored of the same machines day after day. 3 Reasons You Need a Best Friend at Work and How to Find One

I’m a firm believer that friendships develop in the most unlikely of places. Most people don’t go to work to make friends, but if they are fortunate enough to connect with someone the relationship may not get too deep since after all you know one another professionally. However, I’ve been blessed not just to find someone I kind of like at my job, but someone that I actually want to spend time with outside of work and in the short time that we’ve been closer probably knows me as well as my college friends. Now while some of you may think I’m crazy for letting a co-worker into my inner circle, I’m here to tell you that it has made me realize we all need to have a best friend at work! (more…)

5 Budget Friendly Destinations Millennials Will Love

I love to travel, but my budget doesn’t always let me jet set around the world. There seems to be an abundance of flight glitches that can get you across the world for just a few hundred dollars, but unless you have a travel fund/account or just a few hundred dollars lying around, these deals don’t really do you much good. Despite this, we all deserve to experience other cultures and see new places. There are ten destinations that have been deemed budget friendly that I would love to visit: (more…)

My Top 3 Dog-Friendly Places in St. Louis

Spring is doing its best to make an early entrance, with warmer temperatures and confused blooming plants. Though I’m in no way an outdoorsy person, I’ve been loving these warmer temperatures and trying to spend a little more time outside. I’m not the only one at my house happy to see winter coming to an end, the dogs are ecstatic too. Trips to go potty have gotten quite a bit longer and I basically have to drag them back inside. They also seem more eager to go on car rides so I’ve decided to make an effort to start hanging out at more dog-friendly places. (more…)
