I’m not sure what has been going on lately, but The Boy and I have had an insanely full social calendar. Almost every weekend, for the past six weeks, we have had at least one social obligation. From birthday dinners to Halloween parties, our friends have kept us busy. Two Saturday’s ago we ended up double booked and being the people we are we couldn’t possibly cancel on either event. One of the events was a double date to the super swanky Flamingo Bowl, followed by a movie at MX Movies. The other was a dinner with friends to celebrate their upcoming nuptials at a nice restaurant where they had their first date, followed by a lounge or night club. Hopefully by now, you all are realizing these occasions call for VERY different outfits. I guess I could have gone to bowling and a movie overdressed, but seeing as we were with another couple, I didn’t want to look super out-of-place. With that being said, I set out to find an outfit that was casual enough for bowling, but would allow me to upgrade my outfit in less than 60 seconds.
This fall, the weather has been so crazy and unpredictable in St. Louis. I’d usually have pulled out my heavy sweaters, down coats, and Uggs by now, but apparently Mother Nature has other plans and I’m taking full advantage! Accustomed to going from 85 degree shorts weather to 30 degree parka weather seemingly overnight, I was ill prepared for the in-between. I decided to go on the hunt for some affordable fall-to-winter must-haves. I am happy to report, I found five items that I feel every fashionista should have in their closet. I have fallen in love with my thigh high lace-ups, all things with fringe, open toed booties, floppy hats, and blanket scarves. (more…)
I am an avid fan of Halloween. In college, my friends and I always had multiple social events to attend and there was no way we were going to be caught wearing the same thing twice. Unfortunately, since graduation there have not been many Halloween parties to attend. When the The Boy informed me of an invitation to attend a Saturday Night Live themed party, I was thrilled to have an opportunity to dress up again. Not having watched SNL in years, I was at a total loss for what we should do. I eventually ran out of time and The Boy didn’t want to dress up anyway so I figured this would be a good excuse to pull out my favorite white jeans. (more…)
Helllllllllllo fashionistas! This is my first fashion-related post and I can hardly contain my excitement. Just like most girls I LOVE shopping. Boring days can be brightened up with the perfect outfit or a little online shopping. Now that my internship has started and I’m anticipating getting a public health job this summer, I’ve been trying to build the “work” section of my closet. I’ve most recently been obsessed with J. Crew. The catch is, I’m a royal living in reality, so it is an absolute necessity that I am always budget conscious and let’s be honest J. Crew ain’t cheap. I recently racked up on goodies from J. Crew and EVERYTHING I got was on sale. On this particular trip, I went to the J. Crew Factory Outlet, where things are already discounted. In addition to that, many items in the store were additionally discounted, my 30% off punch card was full (shop three times, get 30% off), and I had my student ID to take advantage of an additional 15% off! Since I started having to be budget conscious, I make it a point to always check the clearance/sale area for any last season steals. Despite the dwindling temperatures here in St. Louis, I have no problem buying cute summer dresses, shorts, or tank tops and saving them for next year. Low-key, because the weather has been so unpredictable (it was in the low 80’s today) I’ve been able to wear some of this stuff layered under sweaters or with a cute jacket. (more…)
I LOVE HAIR WEAVE! Long weave, short weave, red weave, blonde weave….pretty much anything that even closely resembles a natural hair color I’m all for it (I’m not bold enough to rock blue hair). Unfortunately for me, The Boy does not share my passion for weave and after several months of various protective sew-in styles he asked me to let me hair breath (-__-). Determined not to loose all of the healthy hair gains I’d achieved from months not manipulating my hair, I refused to cause damage to my hair by frequently straightening it. So just like that I decided to become a naturalista! I’d pinned so many cool hair do’s on Pinterest and watched enough Youtube videos to be an expert….or so I thought. My mom and I thought a perm rod set would be super cute, so we gathered our supplies and set off. It took FOREVER to get all the rods in my hair and we couldn’t figure out how to get them tight to my scalp. (more…)
