Super Bowl Recipe Roundup

The first excuse to binge eat and drink is upon us, Super Bowl 50 is this Sunday! This day also comes just a little bit over a month after we have all made resolutions to be more health conscious, eat better, lose weight, or exercise more. For those of us with these goals, a day of eating hot wings, pizza, drinking beer, and eating cute football decorated cupcakes can really set us back. While we’ve decided not to host a Super Bowl party this year, we will be attending one and I want to be sure there is at least one dish The Boy and I won’t feel guilty about eating. In trying to decide what I should make, I did what any blogger would do, went to my blogging community to ask for help! I was overwhelmed by the response I got from my BLM girls! They suggested so many healthy-ish and delicious looking recipes that I had to share some of them with all of you! (more…)

Our New Christmas Eve Tradition

I know everyone is totally over Christmas and on to counting down to the New Year, but I just had to share our new Christmas Eve tradition. A couple of weeks ago I shared 10 inexpensive winter date ideas. That post was inspired by my desire to still do special things with The Boy, despite the cold weather and hit our bank accounts took because of Christmas shopping. I’m thrilled to announce we were able start our new Christmas Eve tradition of having a bake off! We each prepared a cake of our choosing, with the only rule being it had to be a cake we both like. Despite this being my idea, I have to admit I was pretty worried about losing the competition. Since grad school really picked up, The Boy has been the primary chef in our house and my cooking skills have suffered. Like anyone serious about a baking competition, I took to Pinterest to find a simple yet amazing recipe. (more…)

Liebster Award

First things first, a HUGE thank you to Rachel over at Her Happy Home for my nomination for the Liebster Award! Rachel is a lifestyle blogger on a journey to create a happy atmosphere for her family (her daughter is ADORABLE). She shares health & wellness tips, book recommendations, and tasty recipes on her blog! (You guys really should check her out)

So for those of you outside of the blogging community, the Liebster Award is an award by bloggers, for bloggers. It is passed from one person to the next to encourage networking and support within the blogging community. The cool thing about the award is that it’s a nomination from a new blogger for another newbie, and by “new” I mean fewer than 200 subscribers. I was beyond thrilled and honored when I found out that Rachel had nominated me.  When I started blogging, I had no clue I’d enjoy it as much as I do and it feels amazing to know that people other than The Boy and my mom are reading Royalty in Reality. Surprise Birthday Dinner at Kobe’s Steakhouse

It’s no secret that I just recently celebrated my 26th birthday. What you all may not know is that The Boy’s birthday is just 17 days after mine! According to this blog, I’ve been consumed with my own birthday, but little do you all know I have been obsessing over The Boy’s! This year he will celebrate the big dirty 30 and I’ve been preparing since May to be sure his birthday is unforgettable. (more…)

Mommy’s Chicken and Seafood Gumbo Recipe

With the weather getting cooler, I’m craving good hearty foods. While I’m a mid-west girl at heart, I cannot resist cuisine associated with the south. When my mom invited me to learn how she makes gumbo, I knew from all the other times she was right, that this was an opportunity I could not miss. Gumbo is one of the most well known dishes associated with Louisiana. Generally, gumbo is a thick dark colored soup that contains vegetables, rice, meat and/or seafood. The cool thing about gumbo, is that cooks can customize the ingredients to their liking, so long as they include rice and something to thicken it. We used a gumbo recipe from The Traveler’s Lunchbox as the basis of our recipe. (more…)
