Alright royals, it’s confession time. I am a Kardashian-Jenner fan. I pretty much love anything they associate themselves with and I’m convinced that Khloe would make a better Presidential candidate than the two front runners we currently have. I follow the family faithfully through social media and the show Keeping Up With the Kardashians, and I’m always super stoked about any new projects/products they launch. Regardless of if you love them or not, you can’t deny the fact that anything this family touches (except men) basically turns to gold. When the youngest of the clan, King Kylie, decided to launch Kylie Cosmetics, I knew I had to eventually get my hands on one of the always in demand Kylie Lip Kits.
Remember when I tried Monte Carlo by NYX and I told you all how I’m not a huge makeup buff, BUT now that I’m in front of the camera more often I’m trying to step my game up? Well, I feel that one of the easiest (and cheapest ways) to change up your look is with new lipsticks and the Kylie Lip Kits are ALWAYS sold out so I assumed they were a necessity for any makeup maven. I was already following Kylie on snapchat and would always find out after the fact that there had been a lip kit restock. I knew if I ever wanted one I’d need a different approach because frankly I don’t love the Kardashian-Jenner clan enough to pay a monthly fee for their apps to hear among the first to hear about these restocks. I found a twitter account that was solely dedicated to lip kit announcements and quickly followed to be sure I’d be able to get one during the next restock. Lucky for me, this twitter account came through and I was able to get my very own Kourt K, Dolce K, and Candy K Lip Kits!
Ladies let me tell you, I was sooo excited for this package to come and was beyond impressed that it was in my hands within three days of ordering. The lip kits come packaged in a black box and upon opening it you see Kylie Cosmetic branding. Each package includes an adorable “handwritten” note from Kylie thanking you for purchasing a Kylie Lip Kit. Upon further inspection of my package’s contents, I quickly realized Candy K was not going to work with my complexion. I didn’t need to try it on or even open it to see that it was going to be too pink/just not right. While I was disappointed, I decided it would be amazing to just give it away to one my loyal Royalty in Reality readers (enter below). I had a lot more faith that Kourt K and Dolce K would look good on me and I decided to try them both out this weekend!
For those who may not know, I’ve started studying for the MCAT again, the test required to gain entrance into medical school here in the United States. I’ll be taking a course through a reputable company and will basically spend the next few months doing nothing but studying. With that being said, the only place you’ll probably see me getting dressed up to go is to class and that’s exactly where I was all weekend with my new lipsticks.
Inside of the each box, is the lip liner and the matching matte liquid lipstick. I will admit, I really don’t know much about lip liners. I hear that all the real makeup mavens ALWAYS wear lip liner and in my effort to conform I nervously lined my lips. I am pleased to report that the liner goes on incredibly smooth and was actually extremely pigmented. Next, it was time for the moment of truth because after all what really is most important is the lipstick.

Upon my initial application, I noticed that the lipstick went on EXTREMELY glossy. Things started off okay, but the lipstick quickly started drying and things went downhill even faster. It almost felt as though it dried too quickly, but being that it was matte I didn’t think much of it. Unfortunately, after a few hours of wear, my lips were so dry that they actually began to crack & bleed. I did what any person would do at this point and immediately pulled out my favorite chapstick. This then turned the lipstick into an oily mess. It was EVERYWHERE…all over my teeth, my drinking straw, even floating in my water. I was mortified and immediately scrubbed it off. Hoping that maybe this was an user error I decided I’d try to moisturize my lips BEFORE applying the other lipstick the next day. This approach seemed to cause issues with the lip liner, but with a little extra effort I got my lips lined. I applied the lipstick again and was relieved when after a few hours my lips didn’t get so dry they started bleeding . Unfortunately, the lipstick got so dry it began to flake off (think dry paint coming off of a wall). By the end of the day, I actually had lipstick on my shirt from it falling off. Did I mention both colors were super hard to get off? My makeup wipes were barely cutting it. It took serious scrubbing to get this stuff off. While I’d like to think these issues were my fault, I’m inclined to think that’s not the case since I’ve had positive experiences with other lipsticks. I will say that between the two colors I actually really liked Kourt K (the purple-ish looking color) and would be inclined to put it in my rotation if not for all the other stuff I mentioned. I thought Dolce K was just okay…I didn’t like it or hate it, but The Boy HATED it on me.
All in all, I was rather let down by the Kylie Lip Kits. For a product that costs $30, I was expecting something that was going to be long lasting AND moisturizing. While I’m thrilled to be able to offer a Kylie Lip Kit to one of my followers, I wish that Kylie Cosmetics felt it important enough to show swatches in a wider variety of skin tones. Before ordering anything, I spent a lot of time on Instagram trying to find samples on a skin tone like mine, but only found one that was even remotely close and clearly a poor example. I’m a firm believer that people should make judgments for themselves and that one man’s trash may be another’s treasure. I mean, for all I know, I just don’t know how to properly use them (makeup mavens please save me). With that being said, here is your chance to win your very own, always sold out, Kylie Lip Kit in the color Candy K!
