3 Work Week Survival Tips + Thursday 3 Link Up

It’s hardly a secret that I live for the weekends. I look forward to sleeping in, spending time with The Boy, and just not being at work. Unfortunately, there are five days known as the work week that stand between me and my little slice of heaven. Thankfully I have The Boy to help me get through, but when he’s away for a few days I find myself riding shot gun on the struggle bus. His latest work trip forced me to come up with a new daily routine to ensure everything and everyone (i.e. our fur babies) were taken care of. As a result, I’ve come up with 3 work week survival tips that are sure to make anyone’s work week pass  by a little more swiftly. (more…)

High-Functioning Depression: What it is & How it Looks

Over the past few days I have binged watched the entire first season of 13 Reasons Why on Netflix. 13 Reasons Why is a Netflix Original Series (based on the book 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher) that tells the tragic story of a teenager’s decision to end her own life. Not to reveal too much, but over the course of the season we watch everything that led up to Hannah Baker’s death, get to see all of the events from her perspective, and learn that her classmates basically had no idea the harm they were causing her. The show controversially addresses mental illness, specifically discussing the taboo topic of suicide. After finishing the season, I spent a few days reflecting on my own mental health and decided it was time to share my own experience with depression with the hopes (as always) to encourage anyone who needs and happens to stumble upon Royalty in Reality. Spice Up Your Workout at the New Creve Coeur CycleBar

Spring has officially sprung and the race is on to get your body summer ready! For over a year, the Boy and I have been trying to make exercise a regular part of our routine. As I’m sure you can imagine, we go through phases where we are in the gym 5x/week and others where we skip a whole week. He is much more diligent about working out than I am, as I tend to get bored of the same machines day after day. Lucky for me, a friend told me about a CycleBar opening in Creve Coeur and I jumped at the chance to spice up my workout routine with a few free classes.  (more…)

When I finished undergrad, my only concern was finding a job and not being back under my mother’s roof for too long. I wasn’t terribly worried about how much student loan payments would or even how they would impact my life years down the road. Now that I’m a real life adult and trying to plan a wedding, buy a house, buy a car, and generally just trying to live, I’m realizing how much of a hold my student loans have on my life. The truth about student loan debt is that it sucks. I don’t know a single person with student loans that feels as though their education was worth it. Despite those feelings, we still have to make those payments, but I have a few tips to avoid letting student loan debt ruin your life. (more…)

The Ugly Truth About Student Loan Debt

According to US News, 70% of recent college students graduate with student loans. Student loan expert, Mark Kantrowitz, estimates the average 2016 grad to hold $37,172 in student loans. A recent survey found that 59% of millennial graduates have no idea when their student loans will be paid off. If those stats aren’t enough to make you say “WTF”, let’s add to it that there are 44 million borrowers in the United States alone with a total debt approximated at $1.4 TRILLION! Unfortunately, I am one of these 44 million borrowers and despite the efforts President Obama made to help reduce the burden imposed by student loans, I believe there is some ugly truth about student loan debt we all want to shout from the rooftops.
