4 Outside the Box Valentine’s Day Ideas Your Honey Will Love

I can’t believe Valentine’s Day is just two days away or that The Boy and I celebrated 6 years of dating and one year of being engaged on Saturday. Since we have celebrated 6 Valentine’s Days and 5 anniversaries, the typical dinner & a movie Valentine’s Day date isn’t terribly enticing. We’ve started to try to do more out of the box things that are worthy of a special occasion. While we are certainly working to expand our own list, I wanted to share of few outside the box Valentine’s Day ideas we’ve thought of or have tried over the years. (more…)

10 Things to Do On a No-Spend Weekend

Does anyone else experience a certain level of fear when they check their bank account on Monday after a weekend of fun? Even when our weekends are full of adult-y things (i.e. paying bills and grocery shopping), I’m nervous to look at our balance come Monday morning. I’m always shocked by how much we spent and yesterday I decided it was time for us to rein it. I pride myself in being fairly budget conscious, but I try really hard to find a balance between knowing where every penny goes and being spontaneous. I think it would help if we start doing no-spend weekends every once in a while. What are those you ask? During a no-spend weekend, we will not spend money eating out or on activities. If we break the rule, I think we should have to put $10 in our savings account. So the next question becomes, if we can’t spend money, what are we going to spend the weekend doing? I’ve come up with 10 things we can do on a no-spend weekend. (more…)

10 Inexpensive Fall Date Ideas

I can hardly believe that summer will officially be over in just a couple of weeks. This summer has passed in a blur. Between trying to finish up grad school, attending weddings, and working multiple jobs, The Boy and I haven’t had as much time for dates. Thankfully, we live together, so seeing each other isn’t an issue, but frankly we haven’t really had the energy to think outside of the box as far as date nights are concerned. As of today, I’m going to commit to making more of an effort during the fall season. Since I’ve published 10 inexpensive date ideas for the winter, spring, and summer. it seemed only logical to compile a list of 10 inexpensive fall date ideas. I figure this list will serve as a good brain storm session for me AND aid my royals in finding inexpensive (but good) dates to wow their partner. (more…)

This means we need to plan for outdoor activities early in the morning, in the evening, around water or just head straight for a place with AC. Without further adieu, here is the royal list of 10 inexpensive summer dates. (more…)

Our New Christmas Eve Tradition

I know everyone is totally over Christmas and on to counting down to the New Year, but I just had to share our new Christmas Eve tradition. A couple of weeks ago I shared 10 inexpensive winter date ideas. That post was inspired by my desire to still do special things with The Boy, despite the cold weather and hit our bank accounts took because of Christmas shopping. I’m thrilled to announce we were able start our new Christmas Eve tradition of having a bake off! We each prepared a cake of our choosing, with the only rule being it had to be a cake we both like. Despite this being my idea, I have to admit I was pretty worried about losing the competition. Since grad school really picked up, The Boy has been the primary chef in our house and my cooking skills have suffered. Like anyone serious about a baking competition, I took to Pinterest to find a simple yet amazing recipe. (more…)
